6 Chiropractic Care Myths Exposed

As chiropractic care is gaining popularity among many people having backbone problems, there are some myths about this practice that scare some people from undergoing it. You can find below the list of some the myths and the truth about them.

1. Chiropractic alterations will slacken the spine - This myth is comprehensible as chiropractic care includes a lot of pulling, stretching and popping of spine and joints, but only the "locked up" areas which are suffering from pain will be altered. This gives them space to naturally alter themselves to move into the right position.

2. Chiropractic care is dangerous - This one might have scared many people from opting it, but research and studies in New Zealand have proven that chiropractic care is 100% safe. The only possibility for such myth is that the person is already weak before going for the care. This can be tackled because the examination process before chiropractic care is done will reveal such condition.

3. Chiropractic care is dangerous for children - This myth is another one that many people are scared of. The fact is that chiropractic care is actually essential to perform if newborns have their spine twisting or misaligned during childbirth. However, the care is performed extremely gently by professionals and they will use as little pressure as they can so as not to hurt the babies.

4. Chiropractic care can be administered by yourself - Unless you are a chiropractor yourself, without proper knowledge, you better not carry out this chiropractic care yourself. It is dangerous to do so. Even though you can crackle your necks, fingers and back, it is not really a chiropractic care. It can bring more disadvantages than benefits and so, you better see a professional to do it for you.

5. Chriopractic care is the most important guard against every disease - Although chiropractic care is very effective to cure back problem, it is not always effective against other diseases. The main guard against diseases is actually proper sleep, a nutritious and balanced diet, and also an active lifestyle filled with exercises. All these things can prevent the diseases from 'attacking' your body. Visiting a medical professional like chiropractor should be the second guard to cure the problems. In other words, before visiting a professional chiropractor to solve your breathing problem, it might be prudent to see if quitting smoking and going for daily walks helps.

6. 'The Slipped Disc Theory' - There is a term 'slipped disc' in the medical field. Disc is actually a tender spine's shock absorber. However, slipped disc does not literally mean it slips, because the structure and the way it is connected to the backbone makes it impossible to slip. Slipped disc actually means a damaged disc due to injuries, so it can be due to hernia or drying out as a person is aging.

The myths about chiropractic care are not just the ones listed above. There may be more myths out there that are unclear whether they are facts or fictions, but the ones listed above are the most popular myths circulating among the public.

What Herniated Discs Are and How Chiropractic Care Can Help

Normally, patients look for an alternative and conservative method to manage herniated discs. Chiropractic care is an alternative treatment option for disc herniation. This is preferred by numerous patients who are satisfied with this approach to back pain therapy. At present, chiropractic therapy is the third largest health care profession all over the world and had been instituted as a foundation in the back care industry.

People often ask, "What is herniated disc?" It is a general term for intervertebral spinal disc which has either ruptured or bulged. As a result, its normal shape and position in the spinal column gets altered. On the other hand, those which remain intact are known as disc protrusions or slipped discs, bulging discs, and prolapsed discs. Ruptured discs are those which tear open. Sequestered or extruded discs are those that get contents of the nucleus spilled into the body cavity. Because of this categorization, many patients often forget or do not understand the basics of the disorder and their specific herniation problem.

Chiropractors theorize that the spinal misalignments affect the function of the nervous system. They consider the spine as a neurological highway that directs sensory, motor, and autonomic functions of the body. A perfect spinal alignment is necessary to achieve an optimum general health condition. The bones which constitute the spine and are movable are known as vertebrae. It becomes subluxated when it goes out of its normal place. These vertebral subluxations are the ones believed to be causing disorders and require chiropractic therapy. Chiropractic care doctors will use manual manipulation techniques to examine the spine and neck to check for subluxations. After identifying misalignments, chiropractors will use core manipulation techniques to correct them.

Treatment for disc herniation is dependent on a lot of factors such as persistence and degree of symptoms and age. Treatment can range from simple managements such as physical therapy or anti-inflammatory regimen to more invasive ones such as cortisone shots or surgery. Since surgery is a drastic option plus it is not always successful in correcting the problem, it would be best to seek out a more natural approach. Often times, a disc condition can get better over time. Therefore, conservative ways such as chiropractic care is normally recommended before undergoing invasive procedures and surgery.

Usually, patients are alarmed when they learn that they have herniated disc and fear that its ultimate treatment is only surgery. In most cases, the conservative method of chiropractic care is beneficial and patients respond well over time. Clinical studies provide data that only 10% of herniated disc patients who had chiropractic care but still had apparent symptoms underwent surgical procedure. Get in touch with a Doctor of Chiropractic such as experts from Chiropractic Colorado Springs or any other competent health care professional to confer about your case and what they can do about it.

Chiropractors are experts in examining subluxations and minimize, or better yet, correct them. Typically, a series of sessions is usually scheduled to manage the vertebral subluxations in the spine. They will utilize core manipulation techniques to decompress the vertebrae, allowing the disc to regenerate over time.

Chiropractors, such as those from Chiropractic Colorado Springs, will make use of chiropractic techniques, fitness counseling, wellness exercises, and other necessary treatment procedures to facilitate in alleviating muscle hypertonicity and pain related with intervertebral disc disorders. These include advice on lifestyle modification, nutrition counseling, and teaching lumbar stabilizing and body strengthening exercises to aid the muscles on the back.

Doctors of chiropractic care do spinal modifications to correct the subluxations but do not cure the symptoms associated with disc herniation. The imbalanced pressure on the discs is removed after the vertebral subluxations are treated. After the pressure is eliminated, the discs regenerate. The effects of this correction last long. More importantly, chiropractic rehabilitation has no unfavorable side effects compared with medication regimen or surgery.

If you are considering to consult a chiropractor, contact the professional personnel at Chiropractic Colorado Springs or visit http://www.MyChiropracticColoradoSprings.com to learn more about chiropractic care.

Chiropractic - The Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Introduction

Chiropractic care has grown substantially from its roots in America in Iowa to become a key part of the health care system in the United States. It has grown because it provides numerous key benefits for resolving pain, promotes a healthy life style, and makes people feel better and be more productive. This article is designed to inform people of the broad range of benefits they may obtain from chiropractic care.

Chiropractors follow the medical model used by all doctors. We collect precise information from the patient about the medical or physical issue of concern. We conduct tests. We record the results. We analyze the results and develop a diagnosis that focuses on the cause of the problem and how to solve it. We share the results and diagnosis with our patients. We recommend a course of treatment. We track meticulously how effective the treatment is. We change treatment if the problem is not getting resolved in a timely manner. We refer our patients to specialists if a more detailed diagnosis and treatment plan beyond what a chiropractor can do would benefit the client. Like all medical practices, chiropractors are problem solvers, and all great problem solvers must be able to make an accurate diagnosis of the problem.

The Benefits of Chiropractic Treatment

Of course, not every patient will receive these benefits or might even want them. Every patient is different and there are many contributing factors which will promote or hinder your receiving these benefits from chiropractic care.

1. Improve fitness

2. Improve muscle tone

3. Increase strength

4. Improve balance

5. Increase agility

6. Increase flexibility

7. Reduce pain

8. Reduce likelihood of workplace accident

9. Reduce likelihood of injury

10. Improve posture

Can Chiropractic Care Be Used For Pain Management?

Patients have many choices when it comes to pain relief. Some choose to simply live on pills, as they have been told there is nothing that can be done for them. Others try rigorous nutritional and exercise programs in an attempt to help their bodies become stronger. No matter what direction you take, your pain is real, and you are tired of it. What can you do?

Well, I have already mentioned a few things you can do. More and more it seems patients are not so quick to jump on the medication bandwagon. They understand that most medications have consequences known as side effects. Just look at the size of the Physicians Desk Reference(PDR) and you will see what I mean.

Let's say one thing first...if your only goal is to get out of pain as quickly as possible, you may be forced to go the drug route. However, if you are tired of living on meds and want to try another approach Chiropractic treatment is one avenue to explore. If you have never gone to a Chiropractor before rest assured that in today's world Chiropractors are fully credentialed. They typically have a four year college education followed by four-five years of intensive study in Chiropractic School. When medical doctors are taking pharmacology courses, Chiropractors are studying neurology and spinal anatomy, as well as courses to learn how to safely adjust (treat) the spine. In most states Chiropractors do not prescribe medication. This is a choice each chiropractic student makes when entering school. They are choosing to enter a profession which does not use medication as a treatment alternative. As I have told one attorney during my testimony in an auto case, if I wanted to use medication as a treatment choice I would have gone to medical school.

Upon entered the office you will be asked to fill out a confidential history form. This is very important so that the chiropractor can know what else is going on with your health that may be affecting your current condition. In my office, an examination is performed and any necessary x-rays are taken.

Once this information is gathered, your results will be reviewed and treatment recommended, if you have a case that chiropractic treatment can help. Chiropractic treatment works on the premise that the body's nervous system controls every aspect of your health. And, if this nervous system is performing as it was designed your body with function the way it was designed. That translates into optimal health. When the spine, due to trauma, overuse, poor posture, etc is not in its proper positional state, interference of the vital nerves occurs and can diminish your body's function and performance. This typically leads to pain, as well as other symptoms. For example, I have noticed in 29 years of practice that many patients who have lower back pain, also have intestinal symptoms.. Perhaps diarrhea, constipation, or a lot of gas. This is consistent because the nerves that control the lower back, buttocks muscles, and legs also controls the small and large intestines, bladder, and sex organs. Once chronic pain has set in, it has been my experience that chiropractic care is even more important. The longer a condition sets in, the more likely you are to also have arthritis of those joints. This makes spinal mobility even worse and keeps the ball rolling down the hill, getting bigger and bigger.

There are many other aspects of the beneficial effects of chiropractic care. If you have an interest in finding out more, feel free to visit the website listed below.

Chiropractic Care - Common Misconceptions Exposed

There are many aspects of chiropractic care that people do not understand and therefore they may rely on the easiest or the most convenient explanation offered. From amongst those who know what chiropractic care entails and what the benefits are, there may be a few who have a completely absurd idea of what chiropractic is. Common misconceptions would be that chiropractic care is the solution to all medical issues or deemed to be a miracle cure, or that it is a con game that could prove to be potentially dangerous for those being treated. Neither of these is true, in fact, chiropractic care focuses on the problems of the musculoskeletal system, and is in no way a miracle cure for all diseases. It is like any other therapeutic treatment, but more suited to the musculoskeletal system.

The first misconception would be due to the emotional high the patient will experience on the first visit to the chiropractor. He my feel he has been cured of all other maladies, including the backache, leading him to conclude that chiropractic is a miracle cure. Such persons then recommend chiropractic care for any type of ailment like aching joints to the common cold. In reality however, chiropractic therapy focuses on the musculoskeletal system and the adjustments or manipulations made to the spine may result in the improvement of other body functions. It is advisable to consult the doctor before deciding to take chiropractic treatment. Unless the ailment is relating to musculoskeletal problems chiropractic therapy is better to be avoided. Medical practitioners can diagnose and treat most of the serious ailments. Chiropractic care enables your body to utilize its natural recuperative powers to restore itself to normal function. A chiropractor may guide the patient in formulating plans for dietary changes and lifestyle improvements, thus helping him lead a healthy life.

The other misconception is that chiropractic care can only damage the body and that chiropractors are not doctors in the real sense. Chiropractic care can however, be a good choice of treatment for certain types of spinal problems or those related to the backbone, as compared to other conventional methods of treatment. Chiropractors are not 'pseudo scientists' or con men, but are licensed practitioners of their field. They have a degree in chiropractic, which is an alternative medicine, although they do not use prescription drugs or surgery in their treatment. Contrary to the misconceptions some people may have, chiropractors are recognized and legitimate medical professionals and quite capable in their field of specialization. There is no reason not to consult a chiropractor in case the patient is suffering from chronic back pain or having problems with mobility. In fact, chiropractors may be a better choice to assist seriously ill patients to ease the discomfort by educating them in exercise, relaxation techniques and nutrition plans, thus complementing the medical treatment. Chiropractic care is a form of alternative medicine and it can be successfully used as a preventive measure to avoid disease and maintain overall good health.

Importance Of Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic treatment aims at the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of the problems and disorders in the musculoskeletal system and the lumbar spine, neck and thorax. This procedure consists of manipulation, manual therapy and adjustment of the joints, muscles, spine and soft tissues. This kind of treatment is becoming popular at a fast rate and is a very important part of the medical field.

It has been observed that more than half of the population goes for chiropractic treatment for spinal problems. Chiropractors work hand in hand with other medical professionals to help patients relieve their pain. There is a vast range of duties that chiropractors can perform. They can plan a treatment regimen for the patient, they can order diagnostic imaging and tests, they can explain the findings to the patient and they can perform through physical tests.

Chiropractic treatment works best for low back pain. Although there have been conflicts on the efficiency of Spinal manipulation for low back pain, many people all over the world go for chiropractic treatment. The conflict was that it was observed that chiropractic care is equivalent in effect to medical care along with exercise. But other studies have shown that chiropractic treatment has proved to be more effective in case of low back pain plus it does not have side effects which medicines usually produce.

This type of treatment also proves to be pretty effective in case of neck pain and whiplash. In this case also, some studies report that chiropractic gives the same result as medical care with exercises but at the same time there are studies and patients who report chiropractic to be one of the best ways to get relief during any kind of pain. Time and again many studies and reviews have proved that chiropractic care is one of the best and natural ways to heal your body with the help of hands on pressure. This does not deal with intake of medicines or any kind of drugs. There is no surgery involved. At times, there are conditions when the pain is extreme and the patient has no other option but to go for a surgery. But chiropractic treatment can help in this case. It is only that many people are not aware of its benefits or do not trust it to be that effective. You should consult your chiropractor to know more about this kind of treatment and how it can help you.

Chiropractic Care - Natural Choice For Pain Management

Chiropractic care has surged in recent years due to the demand for alternative care for issues such as chronic pain, back problems, and various other joint or skeletal issues. Those who sufferer with certain painful illnesses such as fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue also have experienced some relief from this type of natural pain management. Chiropractic doctors are professionals who have been trained in the health care art of joint manipulation or skeletal adjustment therapies.

There are several types of chiropractic methods which are derived from the various methods of professional training. Chiropractic institutions of learning require several years of training as well as state licensure much like other health care professions. Natural pain management is the number one concern that most patients bring to their chiropractic health care provider.

Chiropractors are not licensed to provide medications like a medical doctor. Instead, they are trained to treat their patients with natural methods such as manual adjustments. Some chiropractic offices also offer further pain management treatments such as massage, natural supplement therapies, exercise suggestions and technical information about pain management products such as pillows, shoes, and other items that can help reduce pain.

Chiropractic doctors can take and read X-rays of the spine and other joints or bones in the body. They particularly focus on spinal alignment and the fact that correct spinal alignment will not only relieve pain and correct maladjusted vertebrae, but may also nurture the body system in general so that better overall health prevails.

This type of health care is a good choice for many people who want to try a low management way of dealing with injuries that are a result of a car accident, work injury or other injury that may have caused a skeletal or joint problem. Lower back and neck injuries are especially commonly seen by chiropractors since many people do not want to have surgery if at all possible.

There has been good success by many chiropractic doctors who are adept at providing adjustments that not only relieve pain but many times, correct the problem completely. Other injuries such as carpal tunnel, twisted ankles, foot problems, hip and knee issue are also commonly dealt with by this profession. It's true that many skeletal or joint issues need some type of surgery, but there are many problems that can be treated successfully by this alternative health care method.

In the past, chiropractic care was seen as radical or quackery by mainstream medical doctors and institutions, but that is no longer the case. There are many reputable schools that meet stringent requirements for their chiropractic graduates who then become successful doctors. Some orthopedic doctors even agree that chiropractic care can be beneficial to some patients who experience skeletal or joint pain. Chiropractic care is now a viable natural choice for pain management that many people from all walks of life are turning to more and more for alternative health care methods.

Get Better With Chiropractic Care

If you are having persistent back or neck pain, you may be a candidate for chiropractic care. A chiropractor will give you a thorough examination and determine if you may be helped. The focus of chiropractors is on the spine and they can determine if spinal manipulation or adjustments may be appropriate for your condition.

For spinal manipulation, the patient's spine is adjusted with a dynamic thrust which attempts to correct misalignments that may be causing problems local to that area or elsewhere. There is often an audible release. Other therapies can include the application of hot or cold packs, massage, physical therapy and others.

A course of treatment may consist of just a few treatments or care lasting several months or longer depending on the condition. In contrast to traditional medical treatment, there are generally few side effects from treatment by a chiropractor and pass quick if so.

As with all medical professionals, extensive training is required and training beyond the minimum is often taken, so check to see what training has been taken by the chiropractor you are considering. Many chiropractors have additional training in nutrition and other specialties.

Many health insurance plans have some coverage options for chiropractic care, but be sure to check with your provider to see what the terms are exactly. Treatments by a chiropractor are generally much cheaper than office visits to a traditional physician.

Chiropractic care is licensed at the state level, so always confirm that the prospective physician is in good standing with the state.

How Much to Prepare For Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is by and large cost-effective and very affordable. You will see that it is better when equated with a number of other medical measures that last for several years. The fees will change depending on your condition, the professional and duration of treatment. It is recommended that you compare different sources first, to work out how much you actually need.

The Average Costs

A normal chiropractic session in general costs around $65 for general vertebrae adjustment, as reported by one survey in a chiropractic magazine. Sessions usually range anywhere between $35 and $105, dependent on the patient's location, requirements for examinations and the regions of the spine that will be treated. Usually, rates are most expensive in southern areas of the United States, averaging around $70 per session. The Midwest has the lowest rates at around $60.

During your first visits, you ought to expect to pay slightly beyond the typical, at around $60 to $160, since you will require overall health consultation. Additional fees may be charged by professionals for X-ray during diagnostics and evaluation too, priced at about $44 to $160. A great deal of health insurance cover plans will look after certain chiropractic care levels, with remedies turning into a tax-deductible expense. Most chiropractors will take payment plans or insurance.

What to Expect

During each session, you should anticipate to have adjustment of the vertebrae, wherein the chiropractor uses his or her arms and hands, to provide force to the neck and back, thereby realigning joints and relief pain and pressure. The regularity and duration of session will rely upon the actual condition of the patient, as well as patient's a reaction to therapy.

Additional services and modalities can also be given by chiropractors to alleviate tension and stress, as well as treat chronic problems. During a survey of 365 chiropractors, about 48% offer massage services, while 15% offer acupuncture or acupressure. A rub down therapy session by a chiropractor will cost about $40.

Pressure will be put on to the soft tissues and muscles. Acupuncture is the procedure of inserting needles into pressure points in your body to control the correct flow of energy. Each session will cost about $100 to $150, including consultation services. Follow up visits will cost about $65.

Getting Discounts

Some pros who only accept cash usually charge less, at around $55 per session. These physicians are not concerned about the reimbursement percentage that they can get from insurance agencies. Chiropractors with single practice offers usually give discounts, with the whole price average about $63 per session, when equated with physicians belonging in a medical group, with an average charge of about $70.

More Costs

Majority of clinics will require you to go through thorough physical assessment, to work out the right sort of therapy and regions that should be provided attention. Spinal X-Ray, MRI and thermal scan are just a few of the various diagnostic procedures that will be added to your overall costs. You can visit other cheaper places to have these results too, then bring them to your chiropractor to review.

If you are recommended to undergo treatment for several months, expect that costs per session will bit by bit decrease. Some professionals also provide package deals that last for a couple of months, to help patients deal with financial constraints more efficiently.

Quickly learn how to shop for the right professional and compare the rates before picking out.

Does Chiropractic Care Just Work For Back and Neck Pain?

As a chiropractor, I am always asked "Does chiropractic really work?" This is not only an unfair question; it is also a loaded question. Chiropractic care is a very effective form of treatment for some traditional symptoms like neck pain and back pain and not for others.

Being a Chiropractor in San Diego, I see sports related injuries all year round. Running injuries, falls from bicycles or rollerblades, golf injuries, basketball injuries - you name it and most likely we have seen it. More often than not these injuries result in typical sprain / strains that result in neck pain, back pain, sciatica etc.

The types of injuries that I just listed are a few of many joint injuries / symptoms that chiropractic care is very effective in treating. You might say that chiropractic care was made for such injuries. The reason that I convey this is because of the nature of these types of injuries.

The typical sprain / strain injury usually results when a fall or an accident forces a joint through an excessive or abnormal range of motion. This type of injury stretches the ligaments and muscles that move and support the spine. The result of this type of injury is irritation and inflammation of the joint and scar tissue formation.

Without chiropractic treatment, the scar tissue from sprain / strain injuries restricts and or alters normal joint motion which can cause pain and stiffness. Chiropractic manipulations help to restore full, normal joint motion by breaking down scar tissue that would otherwise cause stiffness and pain.

Chiropractic care is an excellent form of therapy for reducing the effects of postural stress from sitting at a computer, poor lifting habits, poor posture and a variety of other stresses that we expose ourselves to on a daily basis.

So, does chiropractic work?

The only way to know is go visit one and see. Chiropractors want their treatment to work and are reluctant to take on cases that may not properly respond to their therapy. No doctor that I know wants to have unsuccessful treatment sessions during the course of their work day.

A good chiropractor can look at your history, perform an examination and make a sound determination on how well you will respond to care. That being said, we are known as the "back doctors" so if you have neck pain, back pain or any spinal related pain, a visit to the chiropractor may be just what you need.

On Relief

Chiropractic care for relief is by and large put on to treat acute pain and irritation when patients are experiencing a lot of pain. The chief goal for this sort of approach is to help patients experience a new sense of relief. Some individuals have been suffering from chronic spine, back and neck pain. Maintenance chiropractic care is intended to help patients maintain optimum level of health or to help enhance the healing process. The spine or joints may already be healed by chiropractic or by other means. When the spine becomes injured, it gets weak, requiring more visits. Patients may go to the chiropractor once every 2 to 6 weeks, dependent on the issue. The type of care will involve the entire body. The therapy provided will concentrate on improving system performance, through the proper flow of energy to the different parts of the body.

The Sorts of Chiropractors

The symptom relief chiropractor is the first sort of practitioner which aims to relieve symptoms present among patients, like headache, nausea, neck pain and back problems. Manipulations are done on the joints or spine to free fixations, reduce irritation and pain and decompress the joints.

Other sorts of therapies can also be incorporated by the professional, like electrostimulation, diathermy, laser acupuncture and tens units. Chiropractors aim to expand level of treatment someday through the inclusion of drugs. The length of remedy will depend on the patient's a reaction to therapy. Remedy schedules tend to lessen over time.

The second type of professional is the traditional conventional chiropractor which focuses on the traditional conventional school of thought of subluxation. Subluxation is the correction of the spine structurally. As the spine is aligned, interference with nerve impulses is minimized. Traditional conventional practitioners primarily aim to get rid of the nerve interference or subluxation by adjusting the spine to the best and most stable position biomechanical. Spinal exercises and adjustment techniques and programs are utilized to help stabilize the position.

On Diagnostics

Diagnostic tests will assist you and your physician determine, which kind of chiropractic approach will best suit your needs and condition. In some cases, patients may need to undergo more than one type of therapy for full recovery.

The duration of therapy will be different, dependent on the progress and type of professional you choose. Do a background check to make sure that you're investing in a qualified professional.

Chiropractic Care - Its Unlimited Benefits

The purpose of chiropractic care is to treat disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system with the aim to improve health. It may be classified as an alternative medicine therapy and uses manual treatment like spinal adjustment and other joint manipulation. It is based on the concept that spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the proper functioning of the nervous system and thus deteriorate a person's health. Chiropractic care will use a combination of treatments according to the needs of the patient, including spinal adjustments, exercise and health and lifestyle counseling.

Experts believe that lowered resistance power of the body facilitate the progress of disease. Chiropractic therapy believes in using natural methods in aiding the body to strengthen its efforts to fight disease. Chiropractic care primarily uses manipulation rather than medications and surgery. Very often medicines and drugs have their own side effects, which may increase the complication rather than cure the disease. Our body has the gift of naturally healing itself. Chiropractic care emphasizes patient's inherent recuperative abilities. A chiropractor gives us the tools and the means to understand our body to promote natural healing.

Medical practitioners will prescribe drugs and medication to cure the disease. These prescriptions may provide instant relief but may also have disastrous side effects. Chiropractors, on the other hand use a combination of alternative treatment methods, which help to resolve the medical issue. They believe that if the spine is properly aligned, then the overall health will be properly restored, because the spine and health are related in an important and fundamental way through the nervous system.

Although there is still debate about the effectiveness of chiropractic care for the variety of conditions in which it is applied, chiropractic seems to be most effective for treating acute low back pain and tension headaches. Studies have shown that upper cervical spinal manipulation may be beneficial in certain types of hypertension.

However, if the patient is suffering from a life threatening disease like cancer or heart failure, it is best to use allopathic medicine for treatment. A chiropractor may assist such patients to ease the discomfort by educating them in exercise, relaxation techniques and nutrition plans, thus complementing the medical treatment. The best approach would be to consult the doctor and take his advice on whether chiropractic care would benefit the patient in any way.

Chiropractic care is a form of alternative medicine and it can be successfully used as a preventive measure to avoid disease and maintain overall good health. It can benefit the individual because it is a non-invasive procedure. Chiropractors emphasize the importance of healthy lifestyles and do not prescribe drugs or perform surgery; therefore, chiropractic care is appealing to many health-conscious individuals. Research has shown that the major savings from chiropractic care are due to fewer and lower costs of auxiliary services, fewer hospitalizations, and a highly significant reduction in chronic problems, as well as in levels and duration of disability. Chiropractic treatment of the back, neck, extremities, and joints is therefore becoming an increasingly accepted form of therapy.

Types of Chiropractic Care

As much as there are a variety of doctors, there are also two categories of chiropractors who deal with different types of chiropractic care. Primarily, the core objective of the chiropractic professional is to establish alignment of the spine by treating subluxations anywhere in the spine through gentle spinal adjustments. The profession also deals with other conditions that are concerned with musculoskeletal issues as well as conditions that disrupt the normal wellness of an individual's body. However, the straight chiropractors differ from the "mixers" in that the former focus on the removal of the spinal subluxation following their purist belief that once the spine heals, then the whole body heals also. The latter, on the other hand, incorporates the practices of physical therapy, diet and nutrition, and exercise regimens in addition to the manual spinal adjustments.

Despite the difference in principles in these two types of chiropractors, both perform an initial examination and detailed discussion with their patient about the medical situation to determine which method to utilize for treatment. On this basis, there are three major kinds of chiropractic care.

Symptom/Pain Relief Chiropractic Care. Program evolves on eliminating the patient's pain and symptoms in the acute phase, which is generally a short phase. The chiropractor determines the level of acute damage and then formulates a treatment plan that would result in immediate but short term cure. This is usually done with the use of modalities such as electrical stimulation, TENS, acupuncture, and sometimes laser.

Traditional/Corrective Chiropractic Care. Emphasis is given to provide longer term of treatment that targets alignment and cure of the subluxed or dislocated spine. This kind of plan is usually recommended for patients who have had problems with their back or spine for quite some time and have not sought treatment.

Maintenance Chiropractic Care. This plan obviously concentrates on those patients who have long-term and permanent spinal disorders who will do well with palliative treatment through constant consultation and checkups, and regular gentle manipulations. This is also recommended to individuals who wish to seek alternative regimes when their ailments are not cured by medical means, and those who would like to make sure that their bodies are kept "aligned" and in shape.

All kinds of chiropractic care follow the premise of spinal alignment or fixation to release blockages in the nervous system that disrupt normal bodily functions. Indeed, the chiropractic profession deals with the spine and everything that is connected with it - and that means the entire well-being of the individual.

Chiropractic Care and Social Security Benefits

People visit chiropractors for a wide range of medical conditions, from skeletal disorders to asthma to high blood pressure. Although many physicians question the effectiveness of chiropractic for treating these conditions, chiropractic care is covered by many insurance companies. For people who have become seriously disabled and lack insurance, benefits from Social Security can help. However, they will only pay for chiropractic care for a limited range of conditions.

Chiropractic is built around a set of spinal manipulation techniques. Chiropractors believe that medical conditions are caused by misalignments in the spine that prevent the proper flow of energy through the body. By adjusting the spine into its proper alignment using a variety of techniques, they believe they can treat a wide range of conditions. The scientific basis of this belief system has been called into question numerous times, but many chiropractic patients believe treatment has helped them.

Since chiropractic techniques only directly affect the spine and related systems, the Social Security Administration is reluctant to pay for treatment for most conditions. As it stands, the SSA will only cover chiropractic for treating a limited set of conditions affecting the muscular and skeletal systems. Even if chiropractors claim to treat conditions unrelated to the skeleton, the SSA requires better proof.

If you do suffer from a disorder affecting the musculoskeletal system, you may be able to qualify for benefits from Social Security to help pay for your medical expenses. Otherwise it may be necessary to either seek other options or to pay for your chiropractic care out-of-pocket. For more information on Social Security benefits, visit the website of the Indianapolis Social Security lawyers of the Hankey Law Office.

Chiropractic Care - A Safe Management for Chronic Pain

Many people are experiencing chronic pain. At present, there are various options on how you would like to manage and treat your pain. Some opt to control pain with over-the-counter pills while others attempt proper diet and wellness exercises in order to develop the strength of their bodies. There are a few brave ones who choose to undergo surgery, thinking that it is the only ultimate way to relieve pain. Unfortunately, surgery does not guarantee that it can correct the problem. One thing is certain though - the pain is real and you want to do something about it. Before attempting to manage chronic pain with those methods mentioned above, think first. Is there a natural way to control this pain?

Medication regimen often yields unfavorable side effects and can also possibly lead to drug dependence. When taken frequently, these drugs can also cause liver or kidney damage. These drugs resolve the symptoms but do not provide solution to the real problem.

Chiropractic care is a natural option that can provide pain relief. It had already established itself in the health care systems for more than 100 years. Nowadays, chiropractors such as experts from Chiropractic Colorado Springs are Board Certified and are well trained and highly skilled in the health care field. They can provide treatment and relief of various forms of pain.

Chiropractors believe that the body has an innate ability to heal and regulate its own functions. If there are misalignments which are termed as subluxations, the function of the nervous system gets disrupted. Chiropractic care restores the proper alignment of the spinal vertebrae through manual manipulation techniques. These techniques had been used for many years to resolve various medical issues and pain. Advancements in chiropractic care have improved spinal manipulations and made them more efficient and relaxing than ever before. Many chiropractors also include other drug-free managements such as counseling and exercise that works hand-in-hand with therapy sessions to promote optimum health and resolve pain and prevent its recurrence.

Even more importantly, chiropractors can often help you to identify the sources of your chronic pain. They frequently recommend corrective exercises that can be performed at home to counteract these problems and prevent pain from getting worse. Many offer lifestyle and nutritional advice to help enhance your body's ability to heal itself. After some rehabilitation sessions, you will notice reduction in the pain experience and you'll feel rejuvenated. Some chiropractic venues, such as Chiropractic Colorado Springs, offer further pain management methods such as comprehensible information regarding pain management.

Surgery is painful, takes a long time to recover, require anesthesia, and administer medications with a high probability for addiction. Chiropractic care is a great natural way to manage chronic pain. As soon as chiropractic therapy is initiated, you will observe that your symptoms will start to get better. Additionally, chiropractic therapy provides drug-free relief for various concerns and treats underlying problems that are causing the pain.

Evidence shows how chiropractic care is efficient for people who are experiencing chronic pain. It improves the functions of the spine and reduces the pain experience. A clinical study published in July 2003 issue of SPINE compared Bextra/Celebrax/Cox-2 inhibitors and chiropractic rehabilitation for the treatment of chronic pain. Data provided that the natural healing process of chiropractic treatment was 5 times more effective in managing chronic spinal pain. Its counterpart medication regimen also caused more pain, yielded negative side effects and untoward reactions. Continuous studies are being made regarding the effectiveness of chiropractic care. It's just sad that there are still many people who are not aware that chiropractic care can naturally treat various problems and pains. People should become aware of this drug-free, side-effects free, and effective pain resolution therapy - the chiropractic way.

So before you decide to take another over-the-counter management for pain, search for the benefits of chiropractic care. Chiropractors, like those from Chiropractic Colorado Springs, will work alongside you to identify the source of your pain and provide pain resolution as well as long term pain management to alleviate and prevent further pain experiences. Seek out chiropractic care and start improving your general health status and quality of life.

Chiropractic Care - Low Cost Insurance Options

Chiropractic insurance is a fairly low cost form of medical insurance that is gaining credibility with the health insurance industry. The purpose of this insurance is to reduce some of the costs associated with medical care treatments such as chiropractic adjustment. This type of insurance can be purchased as a standalone policy, or from your healthcare provider through group or individual health plans.

In some cases, not all health insurance companies carry chiropractic services, because it is considered "wellness care," which means, improving the quality of your life. Other health insurance providers define it as "alternative medicine." Most health insurance companies will cover this service only if you have been involved in a bad car accident, which is considered more of a "crisis" situation, as opposed to a "feel good" visit.

Chiropractic insurance is for you if you need to see a chiropractor on a fairly regular basis. These are a few low cost options for getting your chiropractic needs met.

Policies with high deductibles are the best way to get the lowest insurance rate. When you pay up front, your insurance rates will remain low.

Policies with various options are another great way to help offset very expensive treatments. If you have different ailments that require multiple sessions, seek out the more detailed range of options without paying the extras. This will drastically lower your overall cost of your insurance.

Group and discount health plans are another option for getting low cost chiropractic care. With these discount plans, you would receive discounts on the treatments versus your insurance company picking up a percentage of the cost. With the increase of alternative therapies being accepted, some group health plans are now covering chiropractic services, so you would need to check with your insurance provider to ensure coverage.

Paying out-of-pocket could be a low cost option, depending upon the services. If you are a patient that only needs to see a chiropractor once or twice a year, it may benefit to just pay the bill once rather than setting up chiropractic insurance or through your health plan.

Comparison shop on the internet and find chiropractors who are legitimate with a good reputation. Check to see if the chiropractors are licensed physicians. Check also to see if they have completed the proper schooling and passed both the state and national examinations. Often they will have websites with a comment section so patients can rate their visit.

As with any research, the internet is your best tool for seeking affordable chiropractic insurance options. Visit Types of Low Cost Insurance today and discover how to save money on all of your insurance needs. The intention of Types of Low Cost Insurance is to not only educate you on how to Find Low Cost Insurance, but to give you the determining factors that will make your insurance cheap!

Chiropractic Care- All that You Should Know

Chiropractic care is based on the disorders in the musculoskeletal system as well as the influence such disorders can have on a patient's general health. Chiropractic also focuses on pain in the neck, back, joints and other areas. Chiropractic care usually focuses on achieving increased mobility. This is achieved through manipulating the tissue and the skeletal system. No drugs of any kind are involved in this practice. Only adjustments and hands on treatment are employed. Still, the benefits are numerous. Surprisingly, chiropractic care also aids in the treatment of headaches like headaches. In addition to this, chiropractic professionals also double as versatile diagnosticians although it is not a part of their job description. A diagnostician will have to, in addition to discovering the cause and source of muscoskeletal problems, solve problems related to diet, lifestyle and health as well as provide recuperative special therapy in such areas.

The diagnostic methods employed by a chiropractic care expert is as demanding as all other medical practices. An assessment will have to include diagnostic imaging, clinical examination, diagnostic intervention and testing in the library. Contrary to common misconceptions, all chiropractors refer their patients to professionals wherever their field is deemed insufficient, detrimental or ineffective to the condition of the patient. Very often, the needs of a patient will demand, in addition to just chiropractic care, the attention and skill set of another professional with another qualification in the health team. A learned, capable chiropractor will do the right thing for his patient and hence will conduct a diagnosis process that is as thorough as in any other conducted by another medical professional.

Commonly, chiropractic care is followed by 'chiropractic adjustment' or 'spinal manipulation'. Spinal manipulation uses manually applied controlled force on the joints that have been subjected to tissue injury and are hence less mobile. Tissue injury can be caused either due to one traumatic event alone like lifting an extremely heavy object or a car accident, or through a period of time due to a repeated activity causing excessive strain. As much as sitting awkwardly or regularly falling asleep on the recliner.

In most cases, no discomfort is known to be caused due to chiropractic care treatment. However, there are some people who experience a certain amount of discomfort for a couple of days after the exercises caused due to swelling or soreness.

Treatment and Prevention of Low Back Pain and Chiropractic Care

Low back pain Chiropractic Care can be the result of over-straining, an accident injury or a whole host of other causes such as not lifting a heavy weight properly, or a sports injury. Being older and overweight can contribute to low back pain and Chiropractic Care.

Often with a bit a rest and self care, low back pain resolves itself in time, but sometimes the pain just doesn't subside and the limited range of motion and pain begin to keep the person from being able to enjoy their life. That is when it is time to consider Chiropractic Care to relieve your low back pain.

Chiropractors take a natural approach to health care

While most people have probably heard of Chiropractors, not everyone is familiar with their approach to health care. This can lead some people to be a bit leery of considering Chiropractic care. A Chiropractor is a doctor who takes a holistic approach to health care. They focus on the spine, and the central nervous system, which are at the center of the musculoskeletal system of the body. They take the approach that everything within the body is interconnected, and their role is to remove whatever might impede the body's own natural healing process.

Spinal manipulations help relieve pain and restore alignment

Chiropractors take a natural, non-surgical and drug-free approach to caring for bodies. They use spinal manipulations to treat physical disorders that have their origins in the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system. The goal of these spinal manipulations is to relieve pain and restore range of motion and mobility to the joint. When a Chiropractor does a spinal manipulation, they use their hands to apply a calculated and precise forceful motion pushing the restricted joint past its range of motion. This movement may cause a crack or a popping sound.

Other approaches that Chiropractors might take in treating low back pain might include ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation or massage to warm, stretch and relax tight muscles.

Prevention of low back injury

Because low back pain is often the result of strain or over use, there are things that you can do to strengthen the back to prevent such injuries. A regular, consistent exercise routine that include stretching and weight training will help to build both strength and flexibility in the muscles and ligaments that support the spine. A strong, flexible back is far less prone to injury than a sedentary one.

Observing proper lifting techniques such as not attempting to lift a weight that is too heavy, remembering to lift from bent knees and not from the waist are good ways to protect the back.

Good posture can also prevent low back pain. If you work at a job that requires you to sit for long periods of time, make sure that your chair has proper back support, and try to stand up and stretch occasionally.

Low back pain and Chiropractic care might be the issue that brings you in to the Chiropractor's office, but you may find that you will keep returning in order to keep you body in proper alignment to prevent future health complications.

Chiropractic Care - During Pregnancy

Sometimes it may seem that aches and pains are synonymous with pregnancy. Backache and sciatica pain are just a few of the discomforts that accompany carrying children and although you can't completely prevent such pains, women can take measures to relieve some of the aches. One method to alleviate the painful side effects of pregnancy includes making regular visits to a chiropractor.

During pregnancy, hormones are released to relax the muscles and ligaments of the body. This relaxing allows the uterus and other tissues to expand as necessary and likewise it makes it possible for the pelvic joints to loosen up in preparation for passage of the baby during delivery.

However, this relaxation of muscles and ligaments increases the probability that joints will misalign which then results in soreness. This looseness of the joints along with the oversized abdomen and extra weight that comes with pregnancy tends to throw women off balance. To compensate, they tend to pull their shoulders back and arch their necks.

The result of this new posture is a deeply curved lower back, strained muscles, and aches and discomfort. Many pregnant ladies also experience sciatic soreness. This occurs because the growing uterus applies pressure to the sciatic nerve causing a tingling and painful feeling in the lower back, buttocks, and legs.

The backache and sciatic pain may subside as the uterus grows and the fetus changes its position but in some cases the pain may remain throughout the entire pregnancy. Many can cope with the discomfort, but for some women the pain is so severe, daily activities become difficult or even impossible.

No matter what level of pain a woman feels, she can benefit from visits to the chiropractor. Many of these neuromuscular and biochemical problems that occur during pregnancy react favorably to chiropractic procedures.

But is chiropractic care safe for pregnant women? Many of us wonder this when seeking for alternatives to pain medications. The idea that chiropractic treatments are dangerous to the woman or the fetus during pregnancy is a misconception. Treatments practiced by a doctor that specializes in prenatal and postnatal chiropractics are gentle, safe, and noninvasive.

Chiropractors can give women gentle spinal adjustments to keep the pelvis and spine aligned properly which will in turn lessen the ache. They can also administer and give instruction of how to perform therapeutic exercises and stretches which will make the muscles affecting the spine stronger.

Chiropractors can also give beneficial soft tissue massages designed specifically for pregnant women. A massage can help reduce spinal stress and keep the mom-to-be more relaxed and flexible and more ready for the big labor day.

Pregnant women can rest assured that receiving prenatal chiropractic care is safe for both themselves and their baby. It is a relatively common practice to be seen by a chiropractor during pregnancy and thus many insurance companies cover at least part of the cost.

All women should first check with their obstetrician to correctly identify the source of pain and rule out any other complications before seeing a chiropractor. The obstetrician may also be able to recommend doctors that specialize in prenatal chiropractics.

San Francisco chiropractic care practitioners are also known for their specialized non-invasive treatments for pregnant women. The massages and techniques not only solve the aches but also help in reducing stress. Is it good for your baby? To learn the answer, visit http://www.chirocaresf.com

Chiropractic Care - History and Origin

Most people would probably think that the chiropractic field is a relatively new method of health treatment compared with conventional medicine. Very few know the actual history of chiropractic, but the truth is that it began long ago and has been successful in improving patients' ailments for thousands of years.

Definition of Chiropractic Care

The term chiropractic comes from the Greek "chiro" meaning hand, and "practic" referring to practice or operation. And in its early days and still today much of chiropractic care involves "hand treatments" to manipulate the spine back into its proper position.

Chiropractors focus on the connection between the alignment of the spine and the functioning of the surrounding muscles and nerves. They emphasize the practice of only noninvasive and natural health care methods.

The Ancient Days

Using the hands and other methods to manipulate the spine dates back all the way to ancient China and Greece. During the time period of 2700 B.C. To 1500 B.C., records were made documenting the use of such chiropractic care by physicians of the day.

And later, around 400 B.C., two Greek contemporaries, Hippocrates and Herodutus both employed the practice to cure their patients. In some of his writings, Hippocrates said, "Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases."

Daniel David Palmer

Little was heard of chiropractic care in the Western world until 1895, when a man named Daniel David Palmer founded the modern chiropractic profession in Iowa. Palmer had been in the business of magnetic healing until September of 1895 when he had an interesting encounter with a janitor at his office.

The janitor had been deaf for several years. He told Mr Palmer that his hearing loss occurred suddenly one day after he had bent down in an awkward position, and heard a "pop" in his back. Palmer felt the man's back and found a vertebra grossly out of position.

"I reasoned that if that vertebra was replaced, the man's hearing should be restored," Palmer recorded in his notes."With this object in view, a half hour's talk persuaded Mr. Lillard to allow me to replace it. I racked it into position by using the spinous process as a lever, and soon the man could hear as before."

Soon after this "miraculous" success, Palmer took on a new role, as the first American chiropractor, using spinal realignment techniques to improve everything from the flu to migraine headaches to epilepsy to heart problems.

Palmer once said of his discovery, "I am not the first person to replace subluxated vertebrae, but I do claim to be the first person to replace displaced vertebrae by using the spinous and transverse processes as levers... and to develop the philosophy and science of chiropractic adjustments."

In 1898, he began the Palmer School & Infirmary of Chiropractic to help others take on the role of chiropractor. Since that time, chiropractic care has become one of the largest branches of the medical field with hundreds of new chiropractors graduating each year from accredited colleges and universities.

Among noninvasive and natural health care techniques that perform spinal alignment, there are few alternative treatments like chiropractic care. San Francisco chiropractor manipulates the spine to offer relief from a number of disorders. Visit http://www.chirocaresf.com for more information.

Known Side Results of Chiropractic Care

Any form of health system intervention poses the risks of developing certain ill effects and chiropractic care is one of them. Although there are a a couple of them, gaining knowledge about potential ill effects that may be brought about by chiropractic care will help one prevent the possibility of it evolving into a more severe condition that may be life-threatening.

Common Side Effects

Ever since its emergence, chiropractic care has been receiving praises in the medical industry for introducing a brand of medical treatment that is effective and yet safe. For once, it lacks the use of invasive medical approaches that can be both hazardous and costly. Yet, bad effects with chiropractic care cannot be fully avoided attributable to differences in the way a patient's body adjusts to the chiropractic manipulation or the extent of the harm.

If there are any side effect to be experienced from the use of chiropractic remedy, they're mostly mild and pose no real threat to someone's health. For instance, a patient suffers from a feeling of soreness or slight pain on the part of the body where adjustments were done. In other cases, patients reported of having minor headaches after undergoing chiropractic remedy. Any form of pain experienced during therapy are thanks to the exertion of pressure and force on the spine by the chiropractor performing the adjustments.

How Common or Rare Is It?

Minor side effects vary from feeling of fatigue, soreness, headaches, among others and they're all short term. Plus, patients who go through them only cover a minor percentage of patients undergoing chiropractic care.

Another benefit of chiropractic remedies that you ought to use is the lack of drug prescription or use of surgical methods to remedy the medical condition. As a consequence, patients who need chiropractic care must not hesitate to proceed since any risks of developing bad effects is very low. In point of fact, it is determined to be the least risky way of health care treatment available in the medical profession.

Serious Side Effects

Several publications falsely claim that there are serious side effects brought about by spinal manipulation or other chiropractic treatments. Stroke is one of them. They claim the stroke is a consequence of the manipulation on the neck that create injury to the arteries that transport blood into the brain.

The case of chiropractic patients acquiring stroke as an effect of the operation is a rare incident though. In fact, statistics indicate that only 1 out of a million chiropractic patients are going to produce stroke. Hence, the risks of developing this particular ill effect can virtually be considered non-existent.

When Is Chiropractic Care Not Recommended?

Majority of chiropractic treatments provide immediate relief for patients. Even so, when pain continues even after the initial treatment procedure, it is recommended that the chiropractic remedy is continued for the next fortnight until the symptoms of their condition subsides. If there are no signs of improvement, then doctors re-think other therapy options apart from chiropractic care.

There are certain instances or disorders though wherein chiropractic isn't the best recommended type of treatment to go through. Among them are infection in the bones or joints, acute rheumatoid arthritis, bone cancer, osteoporosis, or other diseases in the bone marrow or spinal cord.

How You Can Prevent Them

There is no better way to guard yourself againt any serious complications that may arise from contracting bad effects on a way to address procedure than to prevent it. Here is how you can do it:

Talk with your chiropractors about possible ill effects that can develop from a treatment method. This will enable you to take proper measures in making sure that the bad effects do not aggravate or if there are any ways for you to prevent them.

Try speaking to previous chiropractic patients to determine what side effects they experienced (if any) and discuss how they addressed it.

When you experience side effects that last beyond 24 to 48 hours, ensure to inform your medical physician or chiropractor immediately.

The Average Costs of Chiropractic Care

Despite tough economic times and skyrocketing costs of traditional medical treatment, you simply cannot afford to ignore or neglect your health needs. Sooner or later, you'll have to "pay the piper." In most cases, dealing with pain now will save you time and money later. It's almost always better to address your health needs now rather than waiting until you experience some type of crisis.

Spinal problems, neck or back pain and similar conditions can adversely affect your productivity at work. Health issues, and the failure to treat them, can produce a domino effect not just in the health care industry, but in the overall economy.

The Costs of Chiropractic Care vs. Traditional Care by a Physician

Chiropractic's lower average costs are a significant advantage and one of the reasons chiropractic has become so popular. Experts have compared various factors relating to patients who chose chiropractic care with the same factors as they relate to people who opted for traditional medical care. The differences between the two types of treatment involve three main factors: diagnostic imaging, surgical rates and level of patient satisfaction.

Treatment costs were found to be significantly lower for patients who chose chiropractic care, because chiropractic treatments do not require any medical equipment or prescription medication. I actually read somewhere that chiropractic treatments cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% less than surgery.

What a Chiropractor's Fees Cover

A research survey conducted by Chiropractic Economics magazine indicates that the average chiropractic session costs about $65. The cost can actually be as low as $34 or as much as $65, depending on the procedures performed and the stage of treatment you're in. In addition, overhead costs vary among different regions of the country, and this, too, can influence the prices chiropractors charge.

Usually, your first visit will cost more than a "regular" visit because so many more procedures are involved, and your chiropractor will need to spend extra time with you at the beginning. Your first visit to your chiropractor will probably also be your longest, and follow-up visits are typically less expensive.

If any additional procedures or equipment, such as massage sessions, acupuncture or x-rays, become necessary for your treatment, your chiropractor may charge you for those services. Charges will vary for each of these additional services, but your doctor should inform you in advance.

Opportunities for Additional Savings

Although research shows that chiropractic care is already more cost-effective than traditional medical treatment, there are some opportunities for additional savings:

Many health insurance plans include chiropractic care in their coverage. You may be able to take advantage if you're covered by one of these health insurance plans.

Chiropractic treatments are tax-deductible.

Some chiropractors only accept cash payments. These practitioners frequently charge less than others or provide discounts to compensate for patients being unable to use their health insurance coverage.

Some chiropractors (like us) believe offering new patients very affordable "First Office Visits" allows patients to easily determine for themselves whether chiropractic care can help them without spending a lot of money.

Role of Chiropractic Care in Maintaining a Pain-Free, Healthy Lifestyle

There is a misconception among some people that chiropractors are not qualified like medical doctors and therefore seeking treatment from a chiropractor is not going to help. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Chiropractors are trained medically and have a license to practice just as their medical counterparts do. The only difference is that their approach to treatment is from the perspective of wellness and a wholesome treatment of the individual as opposed to a generalized approach or symptom-based treatment.

Medical intervention plays an important role in the treatment of internal biochemical disorders that require treatment with drugs and in some cases surgery. However, physical problems, characterized by headache, upper back pain, lower back pain, and soft tissue injuries or muscle spasms, can be treated effectively and eliminated over a period of time with the help of a chiropractor.

Chiropractic care will encourage your body to recuperate on its own and get back to the state of optimal health. This is achieved through careful physical exams, spinal manipulations, exercise and dietary routines.

There are many benefits when you go chiropractic treatment for any specific problem like frequent head aches or injury-related pain. Some of these are:

o Weight loss: Your chiropractor is sure to encourage you to include more fruits and vegetables in your diet, cut back on sugary foods and inflammation promoting foods like grains, vegetable oils and Trans-fats. The exercise routine you undergo will also leave you less heavy and make you more agile.

o Relief from asthma and allergies: A misaligned spine can hinder proper nerve transmission between the respiratory and immune systems. Many find relief from asthma and allergies when their spinal alignment is corrected.

o Improved posture: Chiropractors focus on posture as bad posture directly relates to back and neck pain and soft tissue injuries like muscle strain and tears.

o Relief from PMS: Chiropractic care in the lower back relives PMS symptoms without the bad side effects of prescription drugs.

o Stress readiness: Life is constantly putting us in stressful situations that raise our blood pressure, make us clamp our jaws tight and take tremendous amounts of tension on our back muscles. All these scenarios lead to serious internal and external conditions. Chiropractors teach relaxation techniques to help patients to better cope with day to day stress and challenges.

o Increased awareness of a healthy lifestyle: Importance of a good diet, exercise, drinking enough water, sleeping well, importance of stopping smoking and healthy alternatives for alcoholic beverages are some of the life lessons you will pick up from chiropractic sessions.

Just like proper dental care involves periodic dental visits, and yearly pap smears and mammograms are important for women's health; regular visits to your chiropractor will ensure a healthy spine and promote your overall wellness. You can enjoy a pain-free life with just a little care and adjustment to your spine. Years of study and experience of countless patients show that removing vertebral subluxations lead to a healthy musculoskeletal system and a pain-free nervous system. Therefore, consulting a chiropractor should be an important part of your health routine.

Just How Safe is Chiropractic Care For Children (And Adults)?

Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Children as Well as Adults?

The short answer to this important question is a resounding "Yes!" Children, as well as adults, are successfully - and safely - treated with chiropractic care every single day of the year. Children can safely receive chiropractic adjustments for treatment of almost any type of dysfunction of the spine, back or neck. However, because the bodies of infants, toddlers and young children are different from the bodies of adults, a specialized approach is necessary.

Chiropractic Care for Infants and Toddlers

Infants often experience trauma during the process of being born, and it's important for parents to pay close attention to any neck or spine misalignment that might have occurred. Infants are unable to tell you how they feel or whether they're suffering any pain, so look closely at your baby while he or she is sitting.

If your baby constantly looks in the same direction, it could eventually lead to an irritation. Chiropractic adjustments should be performed to provide relief for your infant. In addition to reducing your baby's discomfort, adjustments will permit an increased range of motion in his or her neck area. The stability of a baby's spine is crucial to healthy, proper development, and chiropractic adjustments are necessary to establish a normal pattern of motion as your infant grows.

Also, I have noticed that children who receive chiropractic care enjoy other long-term health benefits. They seem to be ill less often and suffer less frequently from ear infections.

Chiropractic Care for Children

Older kids usually quite active, and many are involved in sports and other activities which can expose them to back pain or issues with their spine or neck. In addition, some children endure migraine headaches. These can be treated through vertebral adjustments designed to eliminate or reduce the frequency of the migraines and the amount of discomfort they cause. It may have been different in the past, but now, children are frequently treated through chiropractic care.

How to Know When Your Child Needs Chiropractic Treatment: Look at the Symptoms

Spinal problems in children can be difficult to identify unless they reach a crucial stage or have become quite obvious. Nevertheless, early detection is essential to ensure that your child receives the medical care he or she needs to normalize bodily functions and relieve any associated discomfort. The common symptoms listed below can indicate a possible spinal dysfunction in your child:

* misaligned shoulders

* limited mobility of the neck or head

* recurring ear infections

* persistent colds

* abnormal sleeping patterns

* scoliosis

* bedwetting

* constant headaches

* for infants, difficulty breastfeeding

One typical reason parents obtain chiropractic care for their young children is trauma caused by an injury. Whenever a child experiences a physical injury, it can result in a spinal misalignment. Sometimes, the injured child does not feel any immediate pain or discomfort, but the problem is internal and sometimes does not manifest itself for a while.

Is Chiropractic Care Truly Safe?

Chiropractic practitioners use a gentle approach with children. As with adults, chiropractic treatments administered to children can be painless.

A pediatric chiropractor would begin with an evaluation of the child's condition, conducted by asking the parents a series of questions. If the child is old enough, the chiropractor will ask the child if there are any specific complaints or problems.

Children typically respond to chiropractic care much more rapidly than most adults. In fact, most children only require a few treatments to restore normal function in the affected regions of the body.
